Stressincontinence: causes & what helps

In short: With stress incontinence, urine is lost during physical exertion: when coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting or doing sport. A weakened pelvic floor is often involved. Targeted training can support control. The cause should be assessed medically.

Overview

Why is urine lost under strain? lost?

When you cough, laugh or jump, the pressure in the abdomen rises sharply for a moment. A strong pelvic floor counters this and reliably closes the urethra. If the muscles are weakened, for example after pregnancies, during menopause or after prostate surgery in men, involuntary urine loss can occur. The good news: the pelvic floor is trainable.

Stress vs. urge

Two different patterns

Stress incontinence
  • Loss when coughing, sneezing, doing sport, lifting
  • No strong urge beforehand
  • Focus on pelvic floor strength
Urge incontinence
  • Sudden, barely controllable urge
  • Loss on the way to the toilet
  • More on this: Urge incontinence

Mixed forms are possible. Which form applies should be assessed medically . This guide does not replace a diagnosis.

How MyPelvi helps

Targeted activation, without effort.

Classic training often fails because you barely feel the pelvic floor. MyPelvi activates it in a targeted way: you sit clothed, 22 minutes, supported by trained staff. This way you build strength and control. Results are individual; MyPelvi does not replace medical treatment.

What is stress incontinence?+
Involuntary urine loss during physical exertion, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting or sport. A weakened pelvic floor is often linked to it. The cause should be assessed medically.
What is the difference from urge incontinence?+
With stress incontinence the loss occurs during physical exertion, with urge incontinence through a sudden, strong urge to urinate. Mixed forms are possible. An assessment should be done medically.
