Pelvic floor training & Pregnancy
In short: Pregnancy strains the pelvic floor—growing weight and loosening hormones can weaken it. Targeted training can help strengthen it before and after pregnancy. During pregnancy, gentle manual exercises are beneficial; MyPelvi’s chair is used before and after.

How does pregnancy affect the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that support the bladder, uterus, and bowel. As the uterus grows, it exerts more pressure on these muscles. Additionally, pregnancy hormones loosen the tissue to prepare the body for birth – this can weaken the pelvic floor and lead to issues like incontinence. About two out of three women notice negative effects on their pelvic floor during or after pregnancy [3]. Targeted pelvic floor training can help strengthen the muscles before and after pregnancy.
Can I train the pelvic floor during pregnancy? Pregnancy train?
It is allowed and sensible to train the pelvic floor during pregnancy — however not with magnetic field therapy. Gentle, manually performed pelvic floor exercises strengthen the muscles and prepare them for the demands of childbirth. Doctors and midwives can help find the right training program.
The MyPelvi chair is not used during pregnancy — pregnancy is a contraindication for magnetic field therapy. It is helpful beforehand as preparation and after the birth for postnatal recovery.
When should you start with Pelvic floor training?
As a rule: the earlier, the better — ideally even before pregnancy. But don't worry if that's no longer possible: pelvic floor training can be beneficial at every stage of pregnancy and afterwards.
Before pregnancy
Ideal for starting pelvic floor training or the MyPelvi chair before pregnancy — it can strengthen the muscles and help prepare you well for the physical changes ahead.
During pregnancy
From the first trimester, gentle, manual pelvic floor exercises can help keep the muscles strong and flexible and help prevent incontinence. No MyPelvi chair during this phase.
After giving birth
Around six to eight weeks after the birth, once your doctor or midwife has given the go-ahead — ideal as a complement to your postnatal recovery course. Often a little later after a caesarean section.
The exact timing is individual. Please clarify the start with your doctor or midwife, especially after a cesarean section, perineal injury, or complications.
What does a weak pelvic floor?
- Unintentional urine leakage when coughing, laughing, sneezing or exercising
- A feeling of pressure in the pelvic area, often stronger at the end of the day
- Pain in the pelvis caused by overworked muscles
- Pain or reduced sensation during sex
- Consciously feel & engage your pelvic floor
- More control, often fewer complaints
- Better preparation for childbirth
- A stronger, more stable core
If you notice one or more of these signs, there's no need to worry — with targeted training like the MyPelvi chair (before pregnancy and after birth) or gentle exercises (during pregnancy), your pelvic floor can be strengthened.
